Workiva Helps Expand Open Data for Federal Government Spending
Sponsors Fourth Annual DATA Act Summit to Promote Use of Federal Data Standards
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Workiva (NYSE:WK), a leading provider of solutions for enterprise productivity, will play a key role as a partner sponsor in tomorrow’s DATA Act Summit here, which is expected to draw nearly 800 financial management and oversight professionals to assess the progress of the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014 (DATA Act).
On May 9 of this year, after a two-year pilot program, federal agencies began complying with DATA Act requirements to file electronic reports of federal spending in a standardized, open data format. These consistent data standards, set by the U.S. Treasury Department and the White House Office of Management and Budget, aim to increase accountability over how federal funds are received, categorized and spent.
The information required under the DATA Act flows into the website beta.usaspending.gov, which reports on $3.85 trillion in annual federal spending.
“We are proud to sponsor the DATA Act Summit because we want to increase the value of government data,” said Matt Rizai, Chairman and CEO of Workiva. “The transition from physical documents to structured data is an important step forward for government agencies to modernize the way they work. Our Wdesk platform can make it easier for everyone involved to control, monitor and report their data with a single, trusted source.”
“The DATA Act will create the most valuable data set in the world, which leads to increased accountability, better performance and more efficiency,” said Hudson Hollister, Founder and Executive Director of the Data Coalition. “These changes are good for Americans, our government and our society.”
The DATA Act Summit will feature:
- Speeches by members of Congress and federal agency officials who played key roles in creating the DATA Act.
- Best practices for accountability and financial management in grantee and nonprofit reporting.
- New DATA Act use cases from federal CFO and Inspector General departments, program managers and grant and procurement officers.
