Workiva Helps Government Data Be More Accessible and Accountable

Sponsors Data Transparency 2015 Conference to Advance Data-Driven Management

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Workiva (NYSE:WK), creator of the Wdesk cloud-based productivity platform for enterprises, is the presenting sponsor of Data Transparency 2015, a conference to assess key policy changes that will make government data more accessible and accountable by transitioning to digital, standardized formats.

"The movement from static paper documents to dynamic data reporting is a big transformation," said Matt Rizai, Chairman and CEO of Workiva. "We are proud to be the presenting sponsor of Data Transparency 2015 because we strongly support efforts to advance open data."

Data Transparency 2015 will address recent data policy changes that encourage greater transparency outside of government, data-driven decision making within government and automated reporting to governments and agencies.

Chief among the policy changes is the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014 (DATA Act) that requires the federal government to switch from a process of collecting spending information in disconnected documents and reports to an electronic process using a standardized, open-data format. This includes establishing consistent data standards for federal agencies, grantees and contractors, which aims to increase accountability over how federal funds are received, categorized and spent.

Other policies to be addressed include President Obama's Open Data Policy and the Financial Transparency Act, which is currently pending in Congress. If passed, this act will require that financial regulators collect information using a standard, non-proprietary data format. Conference speakers will also discuss open-data formats used to modernize laws and regulations.

"These policy changes open new opportunities for the technology industry as governments and agencies work to comply with the new data formats," said Rizai. "Workiva can automate the process and enable better accountability and better management."

Data Transparency 2015 is hosted by the Data Transparency Coalition, the world's only open-data trade association representing leaders in data publication, data analytics and data reporting.
