Workiva Honored as a 2020 Best Workplace for Parents by Great Place to Work

The annual Best Workplaces for Parents list, published by research firm Great Place to Work acknowledges companies that have created a consistently positive experience for working parents across their organization.

Criteria include parents’ workplace experiences as compared to those of their non-parent colleagues and determining whether their job level, race/ethnicity or any other personal characteristic changed the level of support they received as a working parent. Parental leave, adoption, flexible schedules, childcare and dependent health care benefits are also considered, and new for 2020, an organization’s response to supporting working parents during the pandemic.

Workiva Inc., the company that simplifies complex work for organizations around the world, ranked 36 on the list.

Since moving to 100% remote work on March 23, Workiva has made it a priority to provide employees with the resources and support they need – not just to work, but to take care of themselves and their families.

Initiatives have included: weekly all-company virtual meetings hosted by CEO Marty Vanderploeg, COO Julie Iskow, and others; adding extra vacation days; conducting anonymous surveys to help gauge and address employee well-being; and formalizing a flexible work policy.

Employees have also lauded Workiva’s parental leave and work-from-home policies, manager accessibility, commitment to inclusion, and other supportive services that have been particularly significant in light of the extremely difficult and novel challenges parents have faced this year.

In a recent blog celebrating the Best Workplaces for Parents ranking, Katrina Mader, program manager and founding member of Workiva’s It Takes a Village employee resource group for parents shared, “Workiva has the resources, support and grace that I need to attempt (work-life) balance. I can put my family first and still grow professionally.”

Great Place to Work determined the Best Workplaces for Parents by gathering and analyzing confidential employee experience feedback representing 4.8 million U.S. employees across more than 20 industries – the largest annual study of working parents to date.

“Best workplaces like Workiva have built dynamic, flexible, and transparent workplaces built on trust,” said Michael C. Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work. “This gives companies on this list a powerful opportunity not just to do well for their people, but also to do well for their businesses.”

Workiva has received 16 recognitions from Great Place to Work to date, including two consecutive years on the FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For® list.
